1994 Radar Image of Rabaul Volcano Eruption Aftermath, New Britain, Papua New Guinea Image
Captured nearly a month after the significant eruption of the Rabaul volcano, this radar image shows color-coded terrains stressed by volcanic ash and pumice. Visible are volcanic vents like Vulcan and Tavurvur within the caldera forming Blanche Bay. Ash and pumice floating on the bay are evidenced among various geographic features in the southwest Pacific. Useful for geologists, environmental scientists, city planners, and educators examining the effects of natural disasters and improving hazard preparedness plans.
