Composite Image of SN 1006 Supernova Remnant in Optical, Radio, and X-ray Image
This composite image showcases the remnant of the SN 1006 supernova, combining optical, radio, and X-ray data. Captured on July 1, 2008, its impressive display includes optical data from Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, X-ray observations from Chandra X-ray Observatory, and radio data from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. With an angular size equivalent to the full moon, measuring 60 light-years in physical diameter and located around 7,000 light-years from Earth, this extraordinary view could be used to illustrate cosmic phenomena in educational materials, science documentaries, and astronomical publications. This image is credited to NASA, ESA, and several contributing astrophysicists and observatories.
