Five New Crater Names on Mercury Including Enheduanna and Rivera Image
Image shows five craters newly named by the International Astronomical Union on Mercury. This naming follows a competition held by MESSENGER's Education and Public Outreach team, which received 3,600 entries. Notable individuals honored include Enheduanna from ancient Mesopotamia, Diego Rivera from Mexico, Umm Kulthum from Egypt, Yousuf Karsh who was a twentieth-century Armenian-Canadian portrait photographer, and Turlough Carolan, a seventeenth-century Irish musician. This can be used to illustrate articles about space exploration, astronomical naming processes, and contributions of historical figures.
